1) The position of V.P of Student Life is a position that is very dear to my heart. At Schulich we can become very caught up with studying, networking and attending class. Our rigorous program provides us with hardly any time to relax or even think about having fun; this can be very stressful and even overwhelming. I would love to provide an opportunity for students to let loose and forget about school for at least a bit. I want to ensure that the upcoming year is not remembered as the year spent constantly grinding over difficult courses. But the year where countless memories and new friends are made; memories and friends that will live with you long past graduation. My vision is to create events that will provide my fellow students with not only the opportunity to de-stress but also to create some of their best memories from university.
2) During the summer I had many opportunities to develop the necessary skills for this position. I have not only managed a team of sales representatives but I planned multiple trips to Europe for my friends. Managing a sales team taught me how to delegate work and effectively manage my team. I believe these skills are crucial for VP of student life, where I will be also delegating work and working with strict deadlines. In addition, this experience has taught me how to connect with others and valuable people skills. Planning extensive trips to Europe taught me valuable lessons about event planning that I hope to further develop by being VP of student life.
3) The main issue that I hope to address is the lack of casual social events. Currently the biggest social events are the pub nights; these take a lot of planning, coordination and commitment. Although these events are without a doubt amazing, they are widely spread apart and if you miss one, you most likely need to wait over a month to go out with all your Schulich friends. What I propose is more informal events, where students will not have to commit to buying a ticket, but can simply show up to a venue and pay at the door. These events will not be fully organized by Student Life, but rather a bar or club will be chosen and anyone who is free that night can just show up knowing full well that their Schulich class mates will be there as well.
4) Honestly, my goal is to make next year super memorable and exciting for everyone. For those people who know me, they know I live with the “Work Hard Play Hard” mentality. I work extremely hard when I have to, but when a free weekend comes around I’d like to think that I know how to have fun. I believe that I can provide my fellow student with ample opportunities to create memories that will last with them long after graduation. If I am elected I am certain I will be able to provide my fellow student with a way to make new friends and amazing memories.
