DANIEL PARK
BBA 2019

1) I would like to run for this position because firstly I believe UBS is a great opportunity to become heavily involved with Schulich. Furthermore, I can leave a positive impact and create a better place for the next generation of Schulich students. Regarding this position, there is a lot of potential as it is a new role. It is the most flexible role and there is room for this role to grow. My strong relationship-building and event planning skills will be heavily utilized in this role, thus making me a competent candidate for this role. Lastly, as VP of external communications, I will be able to meet and connect with other individuals outside of Schulich. I will have the opportunity to meet with other students and alumni and establish meaningful relationships.
2) I am a Residence Don at Calumet Residence. I have become both an emotional and academic support for the residents by connecting them with appropriate resources and engaging them in conversations. I have honed my communication skill as I am constantly communicating with my residents, ensuring they are excelling in their academics and doing self-care. I understand the importance of clearly communicating with other members and establishing a clear flow of communication. Furthermore, being a taekwondo instructor teaching and managing 40 students has allowed me to hone my leadership skills. I have coached and lead my students, implementing a strategy and providing constructive criticism when the execution does not go well. I recognize that proper flow of communication is needed for UBS to run smoothly. Furthermore, I must be a leader on UBS as I will be part of an organization that is leading the Schulich community.
3) Some issues that I hope to address is firstly the alumni base. Students at Schulich do not have multiple opportunities to meet alumni and establish a relationship with them. Establishing a strong relationship with both our recent and non-recent grads will be an additional resource for the undergraduate students and provide guidance or advice to them. Another issue is to further develop the case competition program, whether that is to provide more funding to subsidize the cost or provide mock case competitions so students can practice and understand how to excel in a case competition. I would also like to give more exposure to external cases involving other specializations, i.e. marketing, consulting, management, etc.
4) I understand the importance of this role and understand that individuals in Schulich do not have as many opportunities to get involved with external cases. I can help address concerns that students often have regarding the participation of case competitions outside of Schulich. As someone who has not been involved with UBS, I can bring an external perspective and help provide suggestions to change the structure of UBS. I will bring exposure to external cases to specializations that are normally not seen. I will also keep the alumni relations a priority and help students start to become engaged and connected with them. I want to let students keep in contact with our alumni base and understand the many benefits of a strong alumni connection.
