1) I want to run for this position to ensure that Schulich students are maximizing their university experience. During my first year I was fortunate enough to have amazing frosh leaders who were extremely involved and constantly encouraged my frosh group to come out to events, and join clubs. As the internal communications representative I hope to be able to similarly encourage Schulich students, especially our incoming first year students to get involved and realize the vast amount of benefits that our integrative community has to offer. I also intend to ensure that each student’s voice is being heard and their feedback is being considered in future decisions. I plan on doing this by publicizing the feedback received and creating an action plan on how we will address the issues.
2) As a current Schulich Task Force member, a previous O-week Leader, and a member of many Schulich clubs, I have had the opportunity to network with students with different needs from all years. My experiences working with students from different backgrounds will prove to be beneficial in this role as I will be in an excellent position to receive honest feedback, and ideas from my peers. The knowledge that many Schulich students depend on me to accurately represent them will motivate me to ensure that students are enjoying their experience at Schulich. My commitment to being a leader within the Schulich community can also be seen by the contributions I have made as a member of the UBS IT Committee. An example of an initiative I took to improve communications within Schulich is the twitter page I created to increase awareness about events that are occurring on campus.
3) If I am elected, one of the most important problems I intend to address is the clashing of Schulich club events, an issue that results in many students missing out on potentially important relevant information. Like a wide majority of first year students, I was unsure what career pathways I wanted to explore and so I joined a variety of clubs with the intention of discovering my true interests. However, many events I was interested in often occurred on the same day, resulting in my absence from a few.
I also hope to improve awareness of relevant events and workshops hosted by non-Schulich clubs in order to diversify the average Schulich student’s experience at York University. Due to lack of promotion, often many of us Schulich Students are unable to take advantage of what York has to offer.
4) My campaign is about making the most out of your university experience. I want to ensure that you know about all that is happening on campus. I will work to encourage you to get involved in something that interests you, whether that is intramurals, clubs or tutoring. I am already highly involved in a variety of activities at Schulich and am convinced that I will immensely enjoy taking on this position, just like I have for everything else. I have always branded myself as a good listener, someone always open to new ideas.. Vote for me so that I can bring forth your ideas to UBS and work to implement them to make Schulich a better-connected, and more engaging atmosphere.
